Sailing season is upon us once again

April 25th, 2006 by Tony Prikes, Development Manager

I’m sure both racers and cruisers alike are anxious to be back on the water, I know I am. Here at hakia, although very busy, there is always time to enjoy the sailing season and what better way to develop team spirit than to have a racing team. Racing is not my true forte but during a recent Atlantic crossing in 2004 my boat was dangerously within range of a severe low pressure system in the middle of the ocean. Then the race was on with my competitor being a weather system! There are many challenges involved in racing as there are in building a great search engine…team work, organization and strategy just to name a few. Our team at hakia is looking forward to crossing the finish line, breaking open the champagne, and sailing in calm blue waters at our launch in the fall.

A note to NY sailors – hakia users: I will be at the Sailor’s Ball on April 28th!

As part of our crazy schedule here (where we push a new version of our BETA engine every month) we were able to deploy hakia’s wireless-friendly search engine today. It is also BETA. However, you can now hit hakia using your wireless device and search the Web by asking weird questions. I mean, yes everyone searches for stock quotes or the weather, but can your wireless search do this: “why did the chicken cross the road?” Try it, the results are quite funny with stunning precision.

Speaking seriously though, if you were waiting for your appointment in your doctor’s office, you could do a lot of checking on your wireless device. For example, type in “risks of knee replacement surgery” or “side effects of depression medication.” Before you know, you could learn about these things to impress (or should we say sweat) your physician.

As we are approaching our final launch this fall, hakia will get much much better. That’s a promise from our team.
